Chromosome-scale genome assembly and population genomic analysis provide insights into the origin and evolution of modern sweet corn

The genome assembly of Ia453-sh2 (Zm-Ia453-REFERENCE-FL-1.0.fa) have been deposited in NCBI database under BioProject number PRJNA646414, BioSample number SAMN15543012 and GeneBank accession number JACHTI000000000. MAKER-P v2.31.10 was used to annotate genes in the Ia453-sh2 genome to generate Zm00045a.gff, Zm00045a.proteins.fa, Zm00045a.transcripts.fa. A new Genotyping-By-Sequencing build using publicly available sequences comprising 5,381 diverse maize accessions were compiled from recent studies. This set includes a total of 822 sweet corn line, 340 teosinte and a diverse set of tropical and temperate-adapted non-sweet lines. The TASSEL 5 GBS pipeline was used to call SNPs from all the sequencing data using the maize reference genome B73 v4.
